Tips for getting paid on time
Number every invoice
Use a simple sequence like 1001, 1002, 1003. It keeps your records clean and makes it easy for clients to reference a bill.
Say exactly when it's due
A real date, or terms like Net 15, beats “upon completion.” Clear due dates get paid sooner.
Make paying easy
List every way you accept money, from ACH to card to check, so nobody has to ask.
Questions
Is this invoice template free?
Yes. Filling it in online is free with no account. Downloading the PDF, Word, Excel or Google file needs a free Invoixy account, which includes 3 invoices/month free.
Which format should I download?
Pick PDF if you'll print it or fill it by hand. Pick Word or Google Docs to type into it. Pick Excel or Google Sheets if you want the amounts and totals to calculate for you.
Do I have to charge sales tax on an invoice?
It depends on your state and on what you sell. Many services aren't taxed, while most physical goods are. Check with your state's revenue department; if you don't charge it, leave the tax rate at zero.
