Tips for receipts
Send one every time
Customers need receipts for expenses, returns and taxes. Sending one unasked looks professional.
Show the last four digits only
For card payments, never write a full card number. The last four digits are enough.
Keep your copy
Your receipts back up your income records at tax time. Save a copy of each one.
Questions
What's the difference between an invoice and a receipt?
An invoice asks for payment; a receipt confirms you've been paid. Many businesses send an invoice first, then a receipt when the money arrives.
Is a receipt template legally valid?
A receipt doesn't need a special format to count as proof of payment. It needs the essentials: who was paid, by whom, how much, when and for what. This template covers all of them.
Can I fill this in online?
Yes. “Use this template” opens it in our free receipt maker, where the total adds up as you type and you add the payment method. Or download the Word, Excel or Google version.
